Weston Petitions the Politburo for One Additional On-Premises Liquor License
HD.6167 would authorize the town of Weston to issue one additional license for the on-premises sale of all alcoholic beverages — a routine act of local control that nonetheless requires the full blessing of the People’s Legislature before a single additional glass of wine may be legally poured within Weston’s borders.
The petition was brought before the Politburo by Commissar Alice Hanlon Peisch of the 14th Norfolk District, with co-sponsorship from Senator Michael J. Barrett. Local approval has already been received — meaning Weston’s municipal Soviet has spoken, and now awaits ratification from the Central Committee on Beacon Hill, as Massachusetts law requires for any municipality seeking to exceed its state-apportioned license allotment.
No new taxes are levied. No collective resources are redistributed. One establishment in Weston — population approximately 12,000, median household income well above the Commonwealth average — will, if the decree passes, be permitted to sell spirits for consumption on-site. The licensing board retains full authority over which establishment receives the additional allocation. The apparatus grinds forward.
