Foxborough Petitions the Politburo for Three Additional Drinking Permits
Senate Bill S.3094 would authorize the town of Foxborough to issue three additional on-premises all-alcoholic beverage licenses beyond what state law currently permits — licenses the locality cannot grant without explicit approval from the People’s Legislature in Boston.
The decree was jointly filed by Senator Paul R. Feeney and Representative Michael S. Chaisson, both of Foxborough, and carries the endorsement of the town itself — local approval having been obtained by vote before the petition reached the Central Committee. The bill now sits before the Joint Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, referred on May 21, 2026, where it will await its assigned position in the queue.
Massachusetts law caps the number of liquor licenses a municipality may issue based on population, requiring an act of the full legislature to exceed that quota. This is standard procedure. Foxborough has done the paperwork. The collective has spoken. Three establishments — as yet unnamed — stand to gain the right to sell spirits for on-site consumption, pending Politburo ratification.
