Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Files FY24 School Meal Waste Report With the People’s Legislature
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has submitted Report SD.3842 to the Senate — its mandated accounting of school meal waste and consumption across the Commonwealth Soviet for fiscal year 2024, filed pursuant to Section 84 of Chapter 28 of the Acts of 2023.
The report fulfills a directive already encoded in law: the People’s Legislature, when it passed the FY2023 budget, required DESE to document how much collective nutrition was distributed to the Commonwealth’s schoolchildren — and how much of it ended up in the trash. No new spending is authorized. No new decree is issued. The apparatus has simply reported, as instructed, to those who instructed it.
The Senate placed the document on file on April 13, 2026. It will rest there. The Central Committee has been informed. Whether the information compels further action — reduced waste, expanded programming, additional study of additional waste — remains, for now, a matter for future five-year plans.
