Marion Petitions the Central Committee for One Additional Off-Premises Liquor Distribution Point

HD.6043 would authorize the town of Marion to issue one additional license for the retail sale of all alcoholic beverages not to be consumed on the premises — a package store license, in the language of the pre-revolutionary era.

The decree was jointly filed by Commissar Mark D. Sylvia of the 10th Bristol district and Commissar Kelly A. Dooner of the Third Bristol and Plymouth district. Marion has already submitted local approval, fulfilling the People’s Republic’s requirement that municipalities demonstrate collective consent before the Politburo expands spirits distribution quotas.

Under Massachusetts General Law, the number of all-alcohol package store licenses a town may issue is capped by population. A special act of the Legislature is the only mechanism to exceed that cap. HD.6043 is, in this sense, a routine administrative petition — the kind of paperwork that keeps the apparatus of commerce functioning in a small coastal community of approximately 5,000 citizens who would like more options for purchasing wine on the way home.

Decree Rating: ☭ — A single liquor license for a town of five thousand. The apparatus functions as designed.
