Politburo Revisits Sports Betting Decree, Cites Harms to the Proletariat

Senate Bill S.302, filed by Senator John F. Keenan and co-petitioned by Representatives Lindsay N. Sabadosa and Patricia D. Jehlen, would walk back the Commonwealth Soviet’s 2022 legalization of mobile sports wagering by imposing new restrictions designed to curb addiction, predatory marketing, and financial harm to working-class citizens.

The bill targets the operators — DraftKings, FanDuel, and their ideological fellow travelers — who have extracted billions from the People’s disposable income since mobile wagering launched in January 2023. It would restrict advertising, strengthen consumer protections, and direct resources toward problem gambling treatment. Citizens currently subsidizing the sportsbook industry through personal financial ruin are the intended beneficiaries. The industry is not pleased, which the Central Committee has noted.

The bill cleared the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies favorably on March 9, 2026 — after a reporting deadline extension that required its own separate decree — and now awaits review by the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. Whether Ways and Means views the matter as a public health correction or an inconvenient threat to tax revenue projections remains, at present, unclear. The People are advised to monitor developments. Full bill text is available at S.302 on malegislature.gov.

Decree Rating: ☭☭☭ — Favorable committee report is not legislation; the People’s Legislature has been known to lose things in Ways and Means for years at a time.
